FAQ

I don’t know cars. Is this for me?

Yes. We write in plain English. You walk in knowing what to look for, what it costs to fix, and who can put it on a hoist.

What do I actually get?

A PDF for one listing: what the photos show and hide, known problems for that year and model, whether the asking price is fair, BC private-sale tax, and a shop with a real phone number. Last page is a checklist you take with you.

Can I paste a Kijiji or Facebook link?

Yes. That’s the product. Paste the listing URL (or tap Paste link on your phone). We read the ad, the price, the city, and the photos. Facebook, Kijiji, Craigslist, and AutoTrader. If a photo didn’t come through, add it under extra details.

Does this replace a mechanic?

No. Get the vehicle on a hoist. We name a shop so you can book. If the seller refuses, don’t buy it.

Is this a Carfax?

No. A history report says where the vehicle has been. We don’t sell those. Buy Carfax Canada and an ICBC lien check yourself if you want them.

Is this the same as those 60-second listing apps?

No. Those are built to be fast. This is a document you can hand a partner or a technician — with a named local shop, not a blurb in a tab.

You didn’t name a shop in my city.

We only print shops we’ve checked. If that city isn’t on the list yet, the PDF says so and still tells you how to book a hoist inspection.

How does tax work in the report?

In BC, private-sale PST is 12% of the greater of your purchase price or Canadian Black Book average wholesale. We can show 12% of the asking price and warn you the Autoplan broker may use a higher number. We cannot see Black Book. Confirm at Autoplan.

Do you cover vehicles outside British Columbia?

British Columbia first. Other Canadian provinces next. The US is on isthiscarok.com.

What if I learn the kilometres or VIN after I pay?

One update is included for a week. We refresh price and tax. We don’t start the research over from scratch.
